About AERS

Our History goes back to the late 1970’s…

… with a group of young Georgia Tech graduates and their professor researching energy saving technologies for a large Atlanta corporation.  Their research lead them to the energy recovery potential of a heat pump designed for water heating.  When their employer was not interested in pursuing this product they went out on their own to start E-Tech – a company focused on heating water using recycled or recovered energy.

The goal was to save money by reducing the energy cost required to heat water.  A heat pump water heater could significantly reduce the cost of heating water, and the technology had the added benefit of being environmentally friendly – by replacing combustion water heaters which produce green house gases, while reducing the electric consumption of standard electric water heaters by as much as 75%.  It wasn’t easy, this had never been tried on such a grand scale and some critical components were not readily available.   After several years of research and development the hard work, invention and ingenuity prevailed and in 1978 the E-Tech heat pump water heater was introduced.  E-Tech built 225 heat pump water heaters for field testing by 75 utility companies.  The prototype construction and testing was managed by Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

The original products included a de-super heater (which makes hot water using the heat normally rejected outdoors by an air conditioner) and a stand alone heat pump which mounted on top of an existing hot water tank—the  early predecessor to today’s R106K product line.  In 1986 E-Tech developed and produced a high efficiency indoor pool dehumidifier using new heat pipe technology  The original target was for residential pools, but as the cost savings potential of these products became more widely known, commercial and industrial projects became more prevalent.

In 1988 E-Tech was acquired by the Marvair division of Crispaire, a respected manufacture of commercial and institutional heat pumps and air conditioners.  As part of Crispaire, E-Tech participated with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) in the development of a new generation of residential heat pump water heaters.  Development continued on a wider range of commercial and industrial products.  The indoor pool heating and dehumidification product line was greatly expanded, and larger commercial products were developed for potable and process water applications.  Many product lines were reengineered to use environmentally friendly refrigerants.  Amidst all of the development, the focus of the company remained unchanged – heating water efficiently with recycled or recovered energy.

By 2001 Crispaire had grown to the point that they needed to consolidated their many business units.  E-Tech products were no longer a core business for Crispaire and they decided to sell the division.  It was purchased by George Wyers, a retired Crispaire CEO who recognized the continued value and opportunities - and Applied Energy Recovery Systems, Inc. (AERS) was born.  It was a new company with a long history of reliable, well established products and plenty of experienced engineers and a skilled production staff.

As AERS grew, it began to provide custom manufacturing services for other companies, including the Vantage-Aire industrial air conditioning line for Vantage Equipment Corp. of Orlando Florida.  Vantage-Aire products were designed for rugged industrial applications, with heavy duty components and long life times.  They feature patented modular construction for easy maintenance and upgrades.  AERS produced most of Vantage-Aire equipment for three years, and was impressed with the quality and design of the Vantage-Aire products.  The synergies of the products and the production requirements of the two companies was so great that in 2004 AERS and Vantage Equipment Corp. merged.  The new company retained the AERS name and production facilities.

Today, AERS continues its focus on heating water with recycled or recovered energy and produces an extensive line of high quality heat pump water heaters and dehumidification equipment.  The addition of industrial and specialty air conditioning systems broadens the range of AERS solutions to include the demanding space cooling and heating applications typically found in the military and industrial sectors.

The company is based in the Atlanta suburb of Norcross Georgia.

Why AERS?

Experience, Quality, Value

Experience:

We have been producing heat pumps and specialty air conditioning equipment for nearly 30 years - longer than anyone else in this business today. Since 1978 EoTech high efficiency water heaters have been installed in commercial, industrial and residential applications to save energy, save money and protect the environment.

Over 35,000 EoTech systems have been installed, including more that 3,500 commercial and industrial installations around the world - in hotels, hospitals, industrial plants, commercial laundries, restaurants, kitchens, retirement centers, condominiums, natatoriums and health clubs. Our customers include some very recognizable names - Marriott, Hyatt, Sheraton and the US Navy to name a few. AERS systems have passed the test of time - they work - reliably and efficiently.

Applied Energy Recovery Systems is THE "problem solver" providing energy efficient solutions for a variety of businesses and industries. We understand the applications, and we know the capabilities - We're the Experts!

Quality:

At AERS, quality is built into each step of the design, engineering and manufacturing process.

Our design and engineering team uses the latest CAD/CAM software to design all of our systems. This allows our engineers to visualize all of our products and make any adjustments or modifications prior to manufacturing. Our components come from well respected suppliers, with names you will recognize - like Copeland, Sporlan and Siemens. All AERS products are designed for energy efficiency, long lifetimes and easy maintenance.

Our experienced manufacturing staff assures quality systems. All of our manufacturing technicians are experienced in the fabrication, assembly and manufacture of our products. The same staff builds all of our systems - so that the same care, attention to detail, and know how is used whether the system is small or large.

AERS Quality is not just engineering and production - but sales and marketing as well. Our designs are rated at real-life conditions. The performance we quote is the performance you can expect. We don't provide "best case" performance numbers using unrealistic conditions, because that's not what you will see in your application. The performance we quote is the performance you can expect to see.

Value:

You can buy less expensive equipment, but you can't buy better equipment. Our products are designed to provide low operating costs, long lifetimes and easy maintenance. When you compare the cost of purchasing, installing and operating our products over their extended lifetimes, no one else comes close to the value you get with AERS equipment.

AERS products save you money. They reduce lifecycle costs with lower operating costs and long product lifetimes.
