WW Series - Water source heat pump water heaters

E-Tech WW Series high efficiency water heaters are water-source heat pumps specifically designed to heat water. They use environmentally friendly R-134a refrigerant and provide final tank temperatures up to 140°F, efficiently heating water by recovering waste heat from a variety of sources.

E-Tech WW Series heat pumps use existing resources - the building chiller or cooling tower, a lake, a well or a ground water loop - as the source of energy for heating water. The heat pump moves energy from this source to the water to be heated. Instead of continually consuming gas or electricity to heat water, you only pay for the electricity it take to move the energy - typically 50-75% less than direct heating.

Extracting heat from the water source, the WW series can reduce the load on building chillers and recover heat that would otherwise have been wasted to the atmosphere. When used to recover heat from a building chiller loop (commonly used in large buildings and hotels) the cost of operating the heat pump is generally offset by the reduced load on the chiller. This results in essentially "free" hot water while the chiller is operating.

How the WW heat pump works

Standard water heaters heat water by converting a fuel source (typically electricity or natural gas) to heat, which is then transferred the water. This requires the purchase of all of the energy it takes to heat the water. Since no standard water heater is 100% efficient, you actually need to pay for more energy than the water heating requires to make up for the inefficiency.

E-Tech heat pump water heaters work by transferring heat, not creating heat. Heat pumps move energy from someplace it's not needed (in this case, a water source) into the water. The total energy required to heat the water does not change, but you only need to purchase the energy which is needed to move the heat - typically only 25 - 50% of the total energy - saving you up to 75% of energy costs.

The WW series water-to-refrigerant coil extracts heat from an available input source, transfers the heat to the output water via a refrigerant-to-water coil which produces hot water. A water source heat pump water heater operates very efficiently as the heat generated by the compressor motor and the refrigeration compression cycle is also converted to water heating.

Standard WH Series machines are available in capacities from 54,000 to 675,000 at rated conditions. Custom products are available in capacities up to 2,000,000 Btuh.

  • A Pool Heating Option for Indoor/Outdoor Pools (P)
  • A Reverse Cycle Option for the ability to Heat or Cool the water is desired (R)
