How does a heat pump pool heater work?

CPH units are an air source heat pump water heater. It operates like your home heat pump air conditioner, but instead of heating and cooling air, the E-Tech CPH pool heater heats (and in special situations, cools) pool water. A heat pump pool heater is more efficient than the air conditioner because it makes use of virtually 100% of the heat absorbed, consumed and generated by the electrical consumption of the system. The integral refrigeration system captures the heat generated by the compressor motor and the refrigeration compression cycle and converts that energy to water heating as well.

Standard water heaters heat water by converting a fuel source (typically electricity or natural gas) into heat, which is then transferred into the water. This requires the purchase of all of the energy it takes to heat the water. Since no standard water heater is 100% efficient, you actually need to pay for more energy than the water heating requires to make up for the inefficiency.

E-Tech CPH pool heaters work by transferring heat, not creating heat. Heat pumps move energy from someplace it's not needed (in this case, the surrounding air) into the water. The total energy required to heat the water does not change, but you only need to purchase the energy which is needed to move the heat - typically only 20 - 50% of the total energy - saving you up to 80% of energy costs.

What sizes are available?

Two sizes of E-Tech CPH units are standard, the CPH 140 & CPH 200M. The proper CPH for your pool depends on the size of the pool, the pool environment and the needs of your particular application. E-Tech CPH units can be linked together to match your pool requirements. Very large (1,000,000 + btuh) pool heating requirements may also benefit from a custom E-Tech air or water source heat pump solution. The CPH pool heater is designed to be installed in a standard pool plumbing circuit downstream of the filter. An adjustable internal thermostat cycles the CPH unit on and off to maintain the desired water temperature. It should be installed outdoors near the pool and filter. Air flow to and from the E-Tech pool heater should not be obstructed. The CPH unit will operate in ambient temperatures down to 40°F. Environmentally friendly R410a refrigerant is standard in every unit. These units are ideal for medium to large outdoor commercial pools.

For coastal environments where sand, sun and wind play havoc with outdoor equipment, the Coastal Option provides a stainless steel exterior and coated components to resist corrosion and ensure reliable operations.

A Reverse Cycle option is available to cool the pool when long sunny days make the pool too warm, keeping the pool a year-round source of enjoyment for your visitors and guests.
